Outdoor Learning

Here at Littlebourne, we believe in our children accessing the widest variety of opportunities to thrive. Part of our vision for creating the best provision we can for our children is through the creation of our very own, authentic Forest School, run by a fully qualified Forest School practitioner.

We believe that learning should be a rewarding and enjoyable experience for all. We maintain that excellent educational experiences at school will help to equip children with the skills, knowledge and understanding that they will need to be able to make informed choices in their future lives. The development of our Forest School provision provides the platform for our children to flourish in a natural environment.

Our Forest School is open for children and classes to use all-year round. The fire circle, with overhead protection from the wind and rain, as well as log seating provides a magical place to listen to stories or bring topics to life. During scheduled Forest School sessions, our designated Forest School lead, Mr Kennett, will support children to access the forest in whatever way they wish - from physical pursuits such as building or climbing, to more calming pursuits such as mindfulness or role-play.

Forest School supports our whole school approach to the development of Spirituality, where we consider the "now, wow and ow" moments we experience. Being outdoors in an outdoor environment helps many of our children understand their place in the world as one of God's children in a natural world. Furthermore, children develop their understanding of how to care for God's world and how it should be respected and nurtured.
