Lions Class - Year 6
Welcome to Lions Class
We are dedicated and enthusiastic learners who listen carefully to one another. Our classroom is built on respect, and we work hard to create a safe and supportive environment where everyone’s voice is heard and valued.
In Year 6, we show courage by challenging ourselves, taking on greater responsibility and preparing for the transition to secondary school. We encourage one another with hope, believing in ourselves and our ability to succeed, even when learning feels challenging.
We show compassion by supporting each other academically, socially and emotionally, and by understanding that everyone learns in different ways. Through koinonia, we work together as a community, celebrating our strengths and learning from one another.
We are a competitive class and enjoy being active learners. Although we value all subjects, we have a particular passion for art and enjoy using creativity to influence our work wherever possible.
As the oldest pupils in the school, we take our role as positive role models seriously. We enjoy supporting younger children, including sharing books with pupils in Bees Class and demonstrating how our school values help shape us as individuals.

Our Learning
This year, our learning includes a range of exciting and meaningful topics:
In Survival of the Fittest, we explore evolution and inheritance, discovering how living things adapt and change over time. We also travel to Brazil, developing our geographical skills as we investigate its diverse environments and consider how human activity has changed the country.
In Settlers or Invaders?, we journey back to the time of the Anglo-Saxons and Vikings, exploring why people came to Britain, how they lived and the impact they had. We consider whether the Vikings were truly invaders or whether there is more to their story.
Through Hope in the Darkness, we learn about Britain during the Second World War, exploring how the war began and key events such as the Battle of Britain and the Blitz. We investigate how evacuation, rationing and life during air raids affected ordinary families and children, before looking closer to home at how the war impacted our local area. Throughout the topic, we explore stories of courage, compassion and resilience during one of Britain’s darkest periods.
In Imagine, we celebrate creativity and the power of imagination. Through rich fantasy literature, we explore how authors create extraordinary characters, settings and worlds, before using these ideas to inspire our own writing. In Art, we explore illustration and sculpture, developing our own imaginative creations and bringing them to life in three dimensions.
In What Makes Us Human?, we explore the bodies, beliefs and choices that connect us. Through our learning, we develop our understanding of the human body while considering our identities, values and responsibilities towards others.
Finally, in A Pollution Solution, we show compassion for our planet by investigating climate change, environmental issues and sustainability. We consider the impact humans have on ecosystems and explore the positive changes we can make to help leave our world better than we found it.
