Music

Intent

It is our intention that children at Littlebourne should be able to enjoy and develop their love for music by being exposed to a variety of music genres ranging from POP to Jazz to RnB. Children will not only learn songs but also how to play some instruments as well as appraising song styles.  These combined skills will support them to enjoy and relish their musical experiences.

Implementation

We want children to experience music and the Charanga programme helps us to do that. Charanga allows children learn to sing various genres of music from Reception through to Year 6. Children also learn to play the notes of the song learnt using woodwind instruments and percussion instruments. Children are taught the differences between pulse and rhythm and will be able to make their own decisions about music based on their experiences, likes and dislikes. By Year 6, children will be able to compose songs using instruments as well as work towards sharing what they have learnt during their lessons to an audience.

Impact

The aim is for our children to be able to:

  • Relish and appreciate a variety of music as a listener, composer or performer.
  • Identify instruments and voices in a song.
  • Enjoy contributing to a performance by singing, playing instrumentals and improvising their composition.

Rock Steady come to Littlebourne!

We were delighted to welcome Ross from Rock Steady, who wowed our children with his incredible music skills. Ross demonstrated the electric guitar, bass guitar, keyboard and drums and showed everyone the diverse range of sounds these instruments can make.

Thanks to Rock Steady's inspiring introduction to Rock music, we now have four school bands full of children who are learning how to play these instruments together alongside hugely talented music teachers.
