At Littlebourne Church of England Primary School, we are committed to ensuring equality of opportunity for all pupils, staff, parents and carers irrespective of race, gender, disability, belief, sexual orientation, age or socio-economic background.  Through our Christian value koinonia, We develop a culture built on inclusion and diversity where everyone is promoted to feel proud of their identity and supported to participate fully into school life.

 

We tackle discrimination through our school values and positively promote equality and freedom of speech by creating a culture and ethos which is rooted in respect.

 

We believe that diversity is strength and should be celebrated and respected by all.  

 

Equality in Teaching and Learning

 

We provide our pupils with equal opportunities to succeed and actively promote self worth and determination.  We support all pupils to reach their full potential and use positive mindset to strengthen drive and achievement.  We do this by:

 

  • ensuing we provide adaptive learning opportunities to enable all to achieve
  • providing opportunities for pupils to appreciate their own culture
  • providing opportunities for pupils to celebrate the diversity and cultures that differ from their own
  • using materials which reflect a diverse culture
  • by preparing our pupils for life in a diverse society
  • by living by our Christian values and celebrating difference

 

Equality in Admissions and Exclusions

 

Our admission arrangements are fair and transparent and do not discriminate on the grounds of race, gender, religion, belief, disability or socio-economic background.  Our Church school is here to serve our community.

 

Legal Duties

 

We welcome our duties under the Equality Act 2010.  The general duties are:

 

  • eliminate discrimination, harassment and victimisation
  • advance equality of opportunity
  • foster good relationships between groups

 

We understand and respect the principles of the act and the need to ensure that those with protected characteristics are not discriminated against and are given equality of opportunity.  Under this act, the protected characteristic groups are listed as:

 

  • age
  • disability
  • race
  • sex
  • maternity or pregnancy
  • religion and belief
  • sexual orientation
  • marriage and civil partnership

 

The law requires us to carry out some specific duties to demonstrate how we meet the general duties listed above.  These are to:

 

  • publish equality information - to demonstrate compliance with the general duty across its functions - we do not publish information that can specifically identify any child
  • prepare and publish equality objectives

 

At Littlebourne. we do this through data analysis which includes:

  • attendance data
  • attainment data
  • exclusions
  • prejudice related incidents

 

Equality Objectives

Our equality objectives are to:

 

  • strive to achieve equality of opportunity for all adults and pupils regardless of their ethnicity, age, gender
  • promote diversity and a harmonious environment that educates all about discrimination
  • ensure that all pupils are encouraged to achieve challenging targets and diminish gaps in attainment for these pupils
  • identify and support barriers to learning tm meet the diverse needs of our pupils
