What training do staff at Littlebourne have to support children with SEN/D?

Littlebourne is proactive in its approach to pursuing a wide range of training opportunities for all staff (Senior Leadership Team, teachers and TAs), using a range of external training consultants and In-House training from senior staff.  

 

Teaching Assistants access continued professional development from In-House training as a minimum of 6 times yearly run by the SENCO. Teachers also participate in an extensively planned CPD approach.

 

Staff training during the academic year 2020/2021

  • In House Training for TAS (2020-21):
  • Development of Littlebourne Teaching Assistant/HLTA Standards
  • Scaffolding and Supporting Independence in class
  • Lego Therapy Training.

 

Some TAs have participated in STLS run online training in:

  •  Dyscalculia
  • Dyslexia
  • Language through Colour
  • Supporting children with SEMH needs with creating a 5-point scale
  •  Anxiety
  • Some TAs are first aid trained.

 

All teachers have participated in training on:

  •  SEN/D Code of Practice (2015)
  •  Updated Mainstream Core Standards
  • Understanding and Setting SMART Targets
  • Effective deployment of TAs
  • Jane Considine Write Stuff approach and/or Early Years Write Stuff Approach.

 

Some teachers have participated in STLS run online training in:

  •  Dyscalculia
  •  Dyslexia
  •  Language through Colour
  • Supporting children with SEMH needs with creating a 5-point scale
  •  Anxiety.

 

Training needs are regularly updated in line with the needs of the children, staff and school development plan.
