Types of Special Educational Needs/Disabilities at Littlebourne

At Littlebourne, we can make provision for every kind of frequently occurring Special Educational Need or Disability with or without an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

These special educational needs fall within the four broad categories of need set out in the SEN/D Code of Practice (DfE, 2015):

  • Communication and Interaction for example, Autistic Spectrum Condition, Speech and language difficulties

  • Cognition and Learning for example, Dyslexia, Dyscalculia

  • Social Emotional Mental Health difficulties for example Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), anxiety

  • Sensory and/or Physical Needs for example, Visual Impairments, Hearing Impairments.

A child who has any of the above identified needs/diagnoses might not necessarily have Special Educational Needs and require provision that is additional to good quality first teaching. The school continually monitors progress, tracking individual educational provision, ensuring that it is fully inclusive and that all pupils meet their full potential.

Sometimes pupils may have other kinds of special educational need/disabilities which do not occur as frequently and with which the school is less familiar, but we have access to training and advice to help us meet these needs.

The school also currently meets the needs of pupils with more complex needs who have an Education, Health and Care Plan.
